b.) Invent an alien language.  Make up an alien language using sounds that you make with your mouth WITHOUT using your vocal chords.  Make sounds by blowing through your teeth, your tongue your lips, clicking your teeth, puckering your lips, or any other sound you create.

Songmaker

Create a tune.   Close your eyes and imagine that a musical note is interested in going on a journey.  A musical note can only do 3 things: go up, go down or stay on the note it is already on.

You start this game by humming one note and listening to it.  Then imagine that the note wants to go to another note. Allow the note to “go” where it wants. YOU are not making it up, it’s just making itself up and you are allowing it to go where it wants.  There is no “right”, “wrong”, “good” or “bad”.  Just the note going up, down or staying where it is.  This is called “improvisation” which means something that is made up right in this moment without any previous planning.

If you have a musical instrument, you can do the same thing using the instrument.

Exploring Food

The next time you eat, become aware of the smell of the food much more deeply than you ever have before and notice something new in it.  Also try become aware of the aroma of a flower much more deeply than you ever have before. Smell something you never experienced before.

Eat an apple and taste something in it that you never tasted before. Do the same with a drink or any other food you choose.

Improvisations

Improvisation 101:
This game is best done in a group.  One person “calls” out something to act and the other kids act it out.  Then the “caller” says, “stop!”  Everyone freezes until the caller tells the group the next thing to act out.   Take turns being a "caller."

Here is a list of things to act OR make up your own. act like a teenager, a baby, an old person, a tough kid, a scared animal, a polite person, a rude kid, a brave soldier, a Mom or Dad, a King or Queen, a farmer, a mechanic, a waiter, a tree, a lion, a turtle, a bird, a fish, a frog.

Improvisation 201:
Pretend you are eating a food that someone calls out.  Try to create the attitude that you like a fruit or vegetable that you didn’t like before.

a.) Choose a fruit or vegetable you don’t like that is healthy for you.
b.) Close your eyes and imagine that you LIKE this fruit or vegetable.
c.) In your imagination, take a bite and create the experience that it tastes really good.
d.) Now really take a bite and create that you like the way it tastes.

Improvisation 301:
Creating the emotion of liking someone. Pick a person you don’t like, or are not interested in.  Pick someone that you have no reason not to like.  Don’t pick someone who has done something bad to you.  Take a moment to imagine that you like them as a person.  The next time you see them, create the experience that they are interesting and likeable.

Improvisation 401:
Imagine that you are going to be in a movie playing a character that YOU make up.  Create a character that would be fun for you to play.  Either write down or tell somebody what this character looks like, who they are, what they do, and their likes and dislikes.

If a little voice in your mind tells you “I don’t know,” just ignore it and make up something that is nonsense.  Remember, you are not trying to “get something right” for someone else’s approval, you are creating what is fun and interesting for YOU. Other people have their own opinions of what is interesting to them.

Wordmaker

Invent a New Word:
a.) Make up a new word by mixing up different letters on paper. (For example:  ffgmplf is a word I just made up now.)
b.) Make up a pronunciation for this new word and say it out loud a few times.  For example, I would say the word ffgmplf a few times out loud to figure out how it’s pronounced.
c.) Now make up a definition for it. For example I could say that ffgmplf is a kind of purple fruit that grows on a cactus plant on Mars.

It doesn’t matter WHAT you make up.  The idea is just to make things up.

Invent a New Word by Using Sound:
a.) Make up sounds that are different from anything you ever heard before. This will be your new word.
b.)  Make up a spelling for this word
c.)  Make up a definition for this word.

Invent a New Word for a Definition

For example the definition I choose is “somebody who is often angry.”  I will make up a word for this.  My word is bxmklp.
a.)  Now YOU choose a definition.
b.)  Now YOU make up a word for the definition you just chose.
c.)  Pronounce this new word a few times until you get used to it.

Note: Every word in our language was, at one time, made up by somebody as a sound, by mixing letters or as a word for a definition.

Storymaker

Make up a story:
Imagine that on an alien planet where kids travel using backpacks with rockets in them.  This is how they travel from place to place.  Use your imagination to describe how it works and how kids get around using these “rocket-back-packs.”  Share your story with someone.

a.) Same as above, but YOU make up what the story is about.
b.) Invent new words for all of your favorite foods.
c.) Invent a new name for yourself.
d.) Invent new names for all of your friends.
e.) Invent a new TV show; tell us what it’s about and why it’s interesting.
f.) Invent a new comic book and draw it or tell us about it.
g.) Invent a new improved kind of school that kids love.  Tell us what they do in this school, and why kids love it.
h.) Invent the perfect teacher you would be if you were a teacher.
i.) Invent what kind of person you would like to be when you grow up
j.) Invent a new kind of game to play with a pet
k.) Be creative every chance you find.
l.) Create your own games and exercises in creativity
m.) Without stopping to think, make up a story that makes no sense. Make it up on the spot and “let” it come out.  It should be nonsense and funny. The only rule is that you may NOT stop to think for even one second.  If you stop to think, you have to start a whole new story from the beginning.

Try the same thing with a friend, alternating sentences.  If anyone pauses for more than one second, they must start a whole new story.
